BFA Ian Cartwright BFA appoints new Chief ExecutiveThe British Footwear Association (BFA) has announced the appointment of Ian Cartwright as its new Chief Executive Officer, effective 6 May 2026. He succeeds Richard Shetliffe, who has served as CEO for the past two years.

During his tenure, Mr Shetliffe played a key role in stabilising the organisation and strengthening its foundations during a period of change for both the Association and the wider industry.

Chair of the BFA, Jane Wilson, commented: “We would like to thank Richard for his commitment and leadership at an important time for the Association. His contribution has helped prepare the BFA for its next phase, and we are grateful for his service.”

Mr Cartwright brings extensive experience from across the footwear sector, having held senior leadership roles spanning wholesale, retail and direct-to-consumer businesses. He is currently Chief Operating Officer at Mahabis, where he has led operational and commercial transformation to support growth and long-term sustainability. His career is rooted in footwear, with deep expertise in product, sourcing, supply chain, digital commerce and organisational leadership.

Commenting on the appointment, Ms Wilson said: “Ian brings a rare combination of strategic insight and hands-on industry experience. He understands the realities facing footwear businesses today and the role a modern trade association must play in helping members navigate complexity, change and growth. The Board has full confidence in his appointment.”
